Top 10 Tips For Soller

Soller is synonymous with Mallorca. It’s one of the most sought after locations in the North West of the island. We decided to live in Soller for part of 2021 because every time we had visited we could just feel how alive it made us feel.

It’s a magical part of Mallorca, in part because of how visually appealing it is. Set amongst the dramatic scenery of the Tramuntana mountain range, surrounded by a valley of orange groves and a beautiful old town.

There’s a lot to love about Soller and after living there we wanted to write about our top tips for things to do and where to eat, stay and swim in the area.

Walk from Soller to Fornalutx

It’s a 45 minute walk from Soller’s old town to Fornalutx. Take the route through Biniaraix for the best scenery. Fornalutx is one of the most beautiful mountain towns in Mallorca. Grab a drink in the square and then make your way back to Soller.

Hotel Salvia

If you're looking for somewhere to stay in Soller then look no further than the Hotel Salvia. It’s an adults only restored 19th-century former Merchants House located in the old town. Their service, food and surroundings are hard to beat.

Head down to the beach at Port Soller for a swim followed by lunch on the sand at laidback local favourite Patiki Beach. We previously interviewed owner, Grace Berrow.

Also down in the Port NENI is a great dinner option. On the roof terrace at Bikini Island & Mountain Hotel you’ll find a menu filled with tasty Israeli-Oriental fusion enjoyed "Balagan style" – loosely translated as "pleasant chaos".

Bens D'avall

Pricey-but-worth-it restaurant set overlooking the sea on the road between Soller and Deia. It’s a perfect lunch pot and you can follow it up with a swim down below in Muleta Cove or continue on to Cala Deia.

Cas Xorc

Ca’s Xorc

Luxury hotel and restaurant up in the mountain just a few minutes outside Soller. You’ll need a car to come and go but it’s a magical experience to stay a few night, hang by the pool and sample the menu at Ca’s Xorc.

Soller town square

Plaza de la Constitución

Hang out in Soller’s main square. You can find a seat to grab a coffee or a drink every day of the year. If you happen to be passing through on a Saturday morning you can also visit Soller’s weekly market.

Tren de Soller

Tren de Soller

For something different to get in and out of Palma from Soller, take the train. It departs from its own station in Palma and takes an hour to reach Sóller’s station, stopping at Bunyola on the way.

Good to know

  • The best supermarket is the local Eroski. It’s not massive but it has everything you need for a short stay.

  • If you need a gym you can use the Poliesportiu Son Angelats. Also not the biggest gym you’ll find on the island but it has the basics covered.

  • Driving and parking in Soller can be a fraught experience with lots of tiny one way streets that can get you into trouble easily. Be sure to hire small cars and do your research before you enter the old town.

  • The WIFI speeds aren’t great in the mountain areas of Mallorca. It’s worthwhile asking your hotel or Airbnb for proof of speed if you need to juggle work with your time in Soller.

  • Getting to Palma and the airport from Soller is about a 40 minute drive. You can reach other towns such as Deia and Valldemossa in around 15-20 minutes.
